Fortunately companies like Cardinal Scale Manufacturing in Webb City Missouri develop outstanding counting scales that are easy to use and make the job of keeping track of inventory a breeze. All you need to do is place a handful of whatever item you need to weigh on the scale, press a few buttons and you’re counting. Let’s do a quick example. Let’s say you need to count the box of nails that you have. All you need to do is count ten of the nails out and place them on the scale. Then press the number one and the number zero on the keypad, then press the sample size key. The scale will calculate the average weight of the ten pieces you placed on the scale, giving you an average piece weight and displaying quantity of 10 on the display. Now you’re ready to dump the rest of those same nails on the scale and obtain your total.

Counting Scale Rental Recommendations

In the past we’ve written about things like how to use a counting scale and provided advice based on what’s written in the manufacturers manual or user guide. So today we wanted to briefly discuss some strategies when it comes to renting counting scales.

Typically a customer might rent counting scales so that they can complete physical inventory at their facility.  By renting a good number of scales for counting, the company can count lots of parts quickly and utilize employees in multiple departments. By using a digital scale the accuracy should be pretty accurate as well.  The speed of the task should be pretty quick too.

By renting scales instead of buying, the company can save a lot of money and upkeep costs.  If you were to purchase a large quantity of scales, you would have to spend a lot of money up front. You would need to make sure the scales are safe and secure when not in use.  And you would need to make sure the scales are checked and calibrated before each inventory.  So, by choosing to rent scales instead, those costs are either part of the rental price or not applicable. We’re a little bias but Inventory is one resource we definitely recommend to check out when it comes to renting all different types of scales.

Counting Scale Review

Not a week goes by when we don’t get asked about a particular scale and if we think it’s a “good” scale for counting bolts or washers. The truth is we actually can tell you about quite a few good scales for counting out parts. There are several really affordable models that are fairly reliable and not too expensive. So we encourage you to do some homework on your side and figure out what features you absolutely must have. Then, once you determine that contact us with your requirements and we can give you some honest reviews on what scales we have been happy with and which ones haven’t lived up to the marketing hype.

To get you started on a few key issues you need to think about, you might want to start with your item weights you are looking to count. First you need to make sure the items you are looking to count need to weigh the same (approximately). If the parts are not fairly consistent it is almost impossible to really get an accurate count. Then, you should think about the weight of these items and the capacity of the scale you need. It is almost guaranteed that a customer will want to buy a scale that has too much capacity. Remember the higher the capacity the less sensitive the scale is going to be. In other words, if you try to count business cards on a counting scale with a 10 lb capacity, you probably can do that with a fairly small original sample size like 5 or 10 pieces. This should generally take the element of human error out of the equation. However, if you try to count business cards with a 200 lb capacity counting scale, you may have to get a sample of 25 or 50 cards, just to make sure the scale accurately measures such a small amount. When we humans try to count out 25 or 50 business cards at a time, the human error component now becomes a factor.

Counting Scale Rental

Many times in life we need some kind of tool or gadget to accomplish a simple task. Then once we are finished, we like to give the tool back so we don’t have to absorb so much expense. It could be some kind of tool for landscaping or it could be something like a digital scale for rent. We are always being asked to give counting scale reviews to prospective buyers but we don’t normally talk too much about rental scales.

The biggest reason you would like to rent a scale would normally be to complete your physical inventory. The digital counting scale can make counting nuts, bolts, and washers so much easier. It’s important to choose a rental scale that is easy to use. You don’t want your employees to take all day to figure out how to use the scale. Also, it is important to make sure you choose an established scale company to rent scales from since the odds are the experienced company will utilize high quality products that are built to withstand the industrial beatings that can sometimes take place in a rough environment.

How To Use A Counting Scale

One standard question that we receive quite often is, how to use a counting scale or how does a counting scale work? The easiest answer is to manually count out ten of the same parts and place them on the scale. Then let the scale determine the average piece weight and at that point you can add more of those same parts to the scale and the scale will automatically count them for you.

Sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? Sometimes it can be that simple, but there are other factors that develop which can cause some problems. First, as we’ve mentioned before in our counting scale reviews, some scales for counting parts are easier to use than other models. If a scale is hard to use it might lead to more potential user error or have a negative impact on counting scale accuracy. Every now and then a customer will ask what is the best counting scale? That can be tricky to answer since there are actually a number of pretty good scales in the market place.

If you’re having a tough time figuring out which scale will work best for you, we suggest taking a look at the user manual or instructions. This will give you some insight into the basic operation of the scale and give you a basic overview of how the scale works.

Counting scale sample size can be very important too. This is really the foundation for the accuracy of your parts counting efforts. Your parts need to be the same weight and you need to get a good average piece weight. One of the easiest ways to do that is by getting a good sample. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about the Digi DC782 scale or the old Digi counting scale dc 80.  If you do this correctly, you will virtually eliminate error and establish excellent levels of accuracy on all your counts. Sometimes Cheap Is Not As Good

We received this note from a reputable scale manufacturer this week and thought we would post the information.

There are several $100 range counting scales currently in the market place, typically these products are for sale on material handling company websites or auction sites.  The problem is their AD is only 10 bit.  This is a less than a $1 component used only in kitchen and bathroom scales.  It is like selling a $10 kitchen scale and put counting software on it with a bigger casing and have the display showing 30,000 divisions and sell for $100.  No wonder why this is SO CHEAP.  Good for counting apples and oranges only. Configurable Indicator For Counting

Counterpart interfaces with most scale bases, balances, scanners, label printers, and text printers, regardless the manufacturer. Built in Ethernet can gather and transmit scale data to most software. Rice Lake offers a choice of two Counterpart consoles, dual scale or single scale. Both can be connected to virtually any analog scale or serial scale input, to count a full range of parts, from smallest to largest. Rice Lake Counterpart configurable indicators are loaded with user-friendly features designed to help operators produce perfect results by simply following the keys: zero, tare, sample, and count.

The display allows operators to simultaneously view weight, piece weight, description and quantity simultaneously. The ten-piece default sample setting and accuracy enhancement features release operators from counting out large samples. Operators can choose display modes, weight/1000 or average piece weight (APW), and work in the mode that’s most familiar. While the Counterpart has infinite power to handle the most complex operations, most counting tasks will be accomplished with a simple touch of a button.
